Sytem Engineering and Requirements

Nowadays engineering faces challenges which become more complex. In such sectors as aerospace, railway or automobile spheres companies carry out major projects which require coordinated and interdisciplinary efforts of various parts in order to reach a satisfactory products, whithin it's economical restrictions. All this would be virtually impossible without System Engineering..

TheSystem Engineeringis responsible for creation and implementing interdisciplinary process to ensure that the needs of all stakeholders (quality, reliability, efficiency and timeframes) are met throughout the entire lifecycle of the product.

Big projects are focused on a global way as a System, it means that a set of interrelated elements is capable to produce more than combined parts. ,

Requirements are widely used at all levels of the process. , These requirements represent a formalization of the capabilities that must posess a system under certain conditions. The requirements should meet a strict set of features to be valid, being a base on which the proper System is underlying. For example, the requirements should be exact, avoiding any kind of ambiguity, they should also be verifiable so to ensure performance, and surely should be feasable and coherent with each other. The traceability between different levels of requirements is crucial to manage changes and corrections, quickly identifying all affected elements.

System Engineering starts from analysis of the client needs for its formalization as user requirements. User Requirements are analyzed so to obtain System Requirements, which include functional aspects, but technical aspect to be fulfilled as well. Next stage is a design of the architecture of the System, the Subsystems and their interfaces. Then we specify the Requirements of each subsystem, which already have a low level to design and implement or manufacture the subsytem from them. The following step of this process is testing, starting from the lowest level and coming to the highest one, after the integration of subsystems, ensuring that finally all the requirements meet user needs, and therefore customer's needs as well.

In Knowledge Valley we have wide experience as System Engineers of large international projects in ATM (Air Traffic Management). We know the sector with it's brand new technology for requirements and design (IBM DOORS, IBM Rational Synergy, IBM Rational Change, Enterprise Architect). We follow the most advanced specification standards, like IEEE 12207 Software, which includes several documents as CRSD, SRS, SARAD, ICD, SRD and SDD.
